Indigenous Sport Heroes Education Experience
In 2021, we entered into a seven-year-long commitment with Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame as presenting sponsor of the Indigenous Sport Heroes Education Experience. This changemaker resource was inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and aims to prompt conversation about equity and inclusion, through the lens of sport.
Pandemic Response
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our teams have worked tirelessly to deliver solutions to our communities based on their needs. We have delivered modular units to be used as sanitation facilities, assessment centres, and even secure family meetup pods for residents of retirement living facilities.
Future Focused Training
In the summer of 2021, we hosted a months-long training program in the Long Lake #58 First Nation community near Geraldton, Ont., which prepared students to work on the incoming Greenstone Gold Mine project, or in workforce accommodations and lodge installation. After months of hard work, long hours in the classroom and a new respect for the mining business, the students graduated from the program with a certificate and relevant tickets to work on the project.
United Way Calgary and Area
Since 2009, Black Diamond Group has been a strong supporter of The United Way of Calgary and Area, receiving a Community Impact nomination for Campaign Excellence in 2021.
During the pandemic, our fundraising activities happened entirely online. The all-virtual campaign didn't stop the creativity from our United Way planning committee. They produced this promo video to encourage employees to donate and to participate events during the campaign week. What a fun way to make a significant impact on the lives of youth, families and seniors in the local communities!
Gordie Howe CARES
Black Diamond Group proudly supports Gordie Howe CARES, an organization committed to supporting families and individuals caring for loved ones living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. The nonprofit raises money for research and education year round through various initiatives, most notably the annual Gordie Howe CARES Pro-Am Hockey Tournament.
Community Events Units
Our community events unit program is a one-of-a-kind initiative aimed at giving back to our communities where we live and work, with the products we specialize in. Community organizations in B.C., Alberta and Ontario apply to have our mobile units at their events for varied applications. We review applications and provide the unit – free of rental costs – for use at the events. It’s a small but meaningful way to show that we care about our communities.
Dallas Stars Alumni
Since 2014, Black Diamond has proudly partnered with the Dallas Stars Alumni as the presenting sponsor of the Annual Community Chest Charity Alumni Game. The Dallas Stars Alumni and other NHL Alumni, along with members of the community take to the ice to raise funds for local community charity initiatives aimed at keeping kids involved in hockey programs.
Shaw Charity Classic
Since 2013 Black Diamond has been an Official Partner of the Shaw Charity Classic, which has raised more than $61 million for Alberta children’s charities.
Get Ready Queensland
We’ve gifted our portable buildings to numerous initiatives and events in the communities we work and live in, including supporting Get Ready Queensland, an Australian Government campaign that helps communities prepare for extreme weather.
Charitable Giving program
We give our employees the opportunity to contribute to their own communities on an individual level. Our charitable donation program encourages each salaried employee to direct $600 per year to a charity or community group with which they have a personal and meaningful connection.
